 Winter camp

Winter camp

YZU FL x ME 2020 Winter camp
─────────The main theme and meaning of the winter campThe goal of the camp, which was organized by the Department of Foreign Languages & Applied Linguistics and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, was for us students to learn how to lead the team, as well as how to manage their own and everyone's time, so that one is able to learn how to prepare for an event. I think that by participating in this activity, more students will learn how to care for others and how to apply what they've learned to educate children, which will help them develop their courage as well as their communication and teaching abilities. Our department hopes that during the winter vacation, more elementary school students will be able to learn English and Japanese in a fun way and that they will be able to apply what we teach in their lives or be inspired to seek knowledge. This time, organizing with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the goal of allowing children to study not only the language (English and Japanese) but also a portion of the hand-made experimental course. The Mechanical Engineering Department and the Department of Applied Foreign Languages are two different departments. Benefits for our studentsWith the goal of happy learning, children can gain knowledge and experience in light-hearted games and course experiments. In terms of foreign languages, we hope that children are able engage in a dynamic exploration of the English world and letting them to learn Japanese quickly through Japanese songs. We have designed engaging sports courses to activate children's sports cells in order to cultivate their potential to be effective in both brainy and brawny activities.  We planned an easy and exciting hands-on experience to complete my own efforts in addition to knowledge learning.  Diversified learning, particularly the addition of science experiment courses, allows children to discover the wonders of science through simple and safe activities.  Provide additional performance opportunities, allowing them to express themselves and more confident. Teaching contentThe main activities include English and Japanese lessons, as well as hand-made and experimental tasks. There are also sports sessions and group activities outside the class. Not only can they study in class doing hands-on learning, but also go outdoors to play. This year, we held a "Japanese cultural experience" in order to expose the children to Japanese cultures. We also prepared a session to make carp streamers. Reflection by the coordinatorAfter participating in this camp, I believe the most challenging thing will be leading the children to play activities together, as children tend to have mood swings easily, whether it is good or bad.   Nonetheless, I believe it is all a process, and the most important thing is that I have experienced and learned how to lead children and comforting them when their emotions fluctuate.
 The Night of Foreign Language

The Night of Foreign Language

 The Night of Foreign Language
─────────PurposeIn order to provide a stage for talented students to perform, we have decided to hold a night of talent performance and English drama performance. The first English Drama Performance was held in 2003, and it was a stage for many students to show their English talents. However, after 2019, due to the epidemic, the show came to an end, but you can still click on the English Drama Show link above to see the great performances of the former seniors! Although the play is no longer on, we still have a stage for you to perform on. We hope that through this night, we can give students from our departments a place to show their talents, whether it's singing, dancing, acting, or even showing off their stage charisma in front of a large audience so that they won't get stage fright.PerformancesStudents in both departments not only had dances, singings, and dramas, but also joint performances such as great choreography, as well as the anticipated total dance! It brings together talented students from all participating departments to enjoy this stage. I believe the audience will be satisfied with the results of the six months of dedicated preparation! Learning from the activityThis event breaks the tradition of the independent organization because we invite other departments to co-organize it. After learning what a suitable attitude should be used to face different people, I believe that the students participating in the performance have learned how to exchange opinions with different people. For the organizers, this night is a big challenge. To make the event more successful, we found experienced partners to co-organize it. In the process, there are often frictions. They have traditions and we have innovations. In the case of different opinions, we have been communicating, and mutual respect and timely concessions are necessary. Besides looking for lighting and sound effects manufacturers, bargaining, and renting venues. Various issues need to be dealt with. I often feel powerless and the process is stressful. Fortunately, I have a group of friends who work together.  On the day of the performance, I was nervous. I was afraid that there would be too few people, performance mistakes, and problems in lighting and sound effects. I was worried that all my efforts would be ruined, but when I saw that there were too many people and not enough seats, I was relieved. The audience’s laughter gave us the greatest feedback, and suddenly I felt that all the pains from hard work seemed to disappear, leaving only the good memories of the night.

Radio Taiwan International Internship - Danica
─────────Time and trainingThe internship in Radio Taiwan International usually starts from July 1st to July 31st. The training courses are related to broadcasting, operating machines, making sound effects, and so on.  Suggest to prepareBefore starting the internship, the most important is to read more news releases first, because news English and general English use different words. It is necessary to have correct English pronunciations. Don't be afraid to speak! Watching American dramas and imitating pronunciation is also one of the preparations.  Job contentDanica participated in two programs. The first one is “Hear in Taiwan” and the second one is “Feast Meets West”. In the end, she had to create a program that she is interested in. “Hear in Taiwan” was held by 1 host with 4 to 5 guests, chatting about some interesting or special news that happened in Taiwan. They have talked about why foreign parents usually go outdoors with children while Taiwanese children usually stay at home and play on computers or cell phones. They have also talked about the different kinds of mango in Taiwan. “Feast Meets West” talks about special foods or some special cultures, such as the differences between American and Taiwanese rites of passage. Danica made bubble tea rice in this program and she recorded the sound of making the food. DifficultiesIt is stressful to record news. If you can not answer the questions immediately, it will be a bit awkward. But she got used to it after talking for a long time, and she is not so nervous. Reasons to recommendThe students who live near or in Taipei are recommended to come to this internship because the commute to RTI in Yuanshan, Taipei would be a big problem if you live in the YZU dormitory or Taoyuan. Students rarely have the opportunity to go to an English radio station or do her program, so she recommends having an internship in RTI. SuggestionDanica wants to tell everyone, ”Just express our feelings, say them out loud! Our opinion will be heard!”

 China Airline Internship
─────────Internship periodend of January to end of JulyAt least 12 working days a month, 1 working day 2 hours, divided into 6:00~8:00, 16:00~18:00 Required capabilitiesYou need to provide a TOEIC score. The academic record should be above average. First, the school will select candidates, determining whether you can participate in the next stage of the China Airlines interview. Oral expression skills must reach a certain level, with organized content and clear pronunciation because during the interview, they will ask you to make an airport announcement. Of course, self-confidence is also very important! Interview contentIntroduce yourself, read the announcement, group interview with 5 other applicants. They asked about transportation: How would I go to the airport at 6 a.m. shift, and why do I want to intern? They asked if I have any other questions. You may get extra points if you ask some questions, which means you are aggressive and care about it. Main work contentThere are self-service check-in machines to assist and guide guests. Unless other teams’ senior staff assign tasks, we mainly operate the machines. (Some people were asked to disperse the crowd, but you need to improvise yourself.)
Special experience and gainsThere was a problem with the guest’s ticket. Then I directed them to the wrong counter and was scolded by the senior staff. Many tour guides were not very kind because they are more familiar with the airport environment.I was asked if dried shrimp can be brought on board? Because it was the Dragon Boat Festival and they wanted to take it to Japan to make rice dumplings. That was so funny. Some difficultiesI once helped Eva Air's guests (not within my job scope) for almost an hour, leaving the job for a long time, so I was a bit worried.
 The Far Eastern Group

The Far Eastern Group

Suppliers and clients met together, and she helped coordinate and communicate. In addition to knowing more about purchasing, Elma also learned that everyone is serious and professional in their work, and they love their field so much even though everyone has family burden and pressure at work. In the purchasing department, she can learn a lot of things, such as comparing each material, coordinating and negotiating between suppliers and buyers.
Reasons to recommendBusiness English and communication skills are the strengths of our department, so don't be afraid to initiate communication. Besides, we should learn more about business. Set a goal before the internship so as to perform well in the interview. First, clarify your strengths and the reasons why you are suitable for this position. You must understand this position and the goals you want to reach. The Far Eastern Group companies include many categories, so we can learn a lot.
If there is one more chance……Elma wants to be responsible for a project, but every project is very professional. Each case will be tracked for a long time, so she only participated in the project, but Elma has learned a lot.
 Five-Star Hotel Internship in Australia

Five-Star Hotel Internship in Australia

Five-Star Hotel Internship in Australia - Vivian─────────Class and internship timeClasses:International College of Hotel Management (ICHM)From July 14th to December 8th, 2019.Internship:At Park Hyatt Melbourne five-star hotelFrom January 16 to March 16, 2020.(Expected to work until July 16. Due to the epidemic, she returned to Taiwan earlier). ThresholdThe main threshold of ICHM is the IELTS score, with an average score above 5.5 points, and each part cannot be less than 5 points. After passing the IELTS, ICHM sent a teacher to Taiwan to interview students. A resume, IELTS scores, and semester scores are required.                                                                                          Required abilityDuring the hotel interview, the managers of the hotel’s human resources and the application department video interviewed me. The interviewers tested speaking and listening skills through the conversation. The most important is to show your strengths. Among the many interviewees, why would a five-star hotel hire you? Examining your strengths and weaknesses, grasping every opportunity to practice, showing your difference, and maintaining self-confidence in the interview are the keys.
CostAt first, you need to prepare about NT$700,000. In the first half of the year, the main expenses are tuition, air tickets, and living expenses. You use the salary earned from the internship in the second half. If you are good at saving, you may save NT$350,000 to NT$400,000.Main work contentVivian is an intern in the Housekeeping Department of Park Hyatt Melbourne. The working hours are 5 to 6 days a week (the rest days are not fixed), from 8 am to 4 pm, with a half-hour break in between. Before work every day, the manager would first brief which VIP guests will come to the hotel on that day, as well as some precautions. Each employee would be assigned a mobile phone to check the rooms to be cleaned and the cleaning progress. Each person needs to clean 12 to 13 rooms per day. Tthere are many details to pay attention to. Each item in the room has its angle and quantity, and there are many types of pillows and quilts.
Special experiences Vivian learned a lot and had many special experiences during the internship. The most important is to expand the horizons and affirm herself. While in Australia, Vivian met a lot of different people, and gradually fit in with Australians. She started to know how to get along with different people, understood what she wanted, and even discovered more possibilities of herself. She never thought that after listening to the sharing from her seniors in sophomore year, she could also study in Australia in her senior year. She could not only work in restaurants and get an internship in the hotel but also live independently in Melbourne. She discovered that she has many possibilities and that her abilities are far greater than she could imagine. The difficultiesAlthough Vivian’s English scores were higher than the requirement, she still felt the language weakness when she went to Australia. When she was getting along with classmates, there were many problems with communication. Especially during the internship, she needed to report problems to the supervisor, or communicate and serve customers. If she expressed incorrectly, she might be scolded or complained.Besides, housekeeping required a lot of physical strength and had great time pressure. She often had to do her best to finish the work on time, so she had many bruises and wounds. This is the most difficult part to adapt to at the beginning. At that time, she would sacrifice her rest time to continue cleaning. Later she found that if she didn't take a break, she would not be able to work the whole day. To improve the situation, she asked colleagues for tips. It took her almost two months to get used to working.                                                                                                  If you want an internship, …… If you have enough money, it is recommended to come to Australia. It is very special to have the experience of an internship in the hotel. It is far better than having classes. Because of ICHM’s recommendation, rookies like Vivian who have no relevant experience can also get an interview opportunity from five-star hotels, but whether people can be hired depends on themselves. Many people have been interviewed but not hired, so they changed to four-star hotels. ICHM gives students a lot of help, such as helping students to have a better resume, having mock interviews, and contacting hotels for interviews. Therefore, students can concentrate on preparing for the interview. If anyone wants to come, it is better to finish the required credits before the internship. Junior year is the best year to go abroad so that your graduation would not be delayed. The most important is to pass the graduation requirement of the Japanese Test. Otherwise, it is easy to forget most Japanese after a year in Australia. It will be very painful to pass the examination after that time.

───────── If you think the winter and summer vacations are too long, and if you feel like doing something special, then sign up for an internship with the department!Don't worry or fear that your Japanese ability is too poor. The most important thing is to maintain self-confidence and express your ideas well. Time and placeAbout two months, at the View Hotel in Okinawa Required abilitiesAt the time of the interview, it was said that it is better to have N5-N4 ability, but they did not look at the certification. The most important is personal expression and self-confidence, which determines whether you can communicate well with guests. The contentFront desk: Reception and help with the luggage.Housekeeping: Meet the tenant's requirements, clean up, and organize the environment after check-out.Restaurant: Serve everything for the restaurant guests, pack tableware, or help with food. Environment                                        About salary and benefitsBenefits: All-inclusive meals, cheap dormitorySalary: 700-800 yen/hour (lower than expected)                              The reflection during this internTraffic is a big obstacle because the working environment belongs to a resort hotel, usually in the suburbs or mountains. The hotel is more than an hour's walk from the supermarket or the city. It is very troublesome without a car. In terms of communication, because the Japanese people speak fast if you don't understand, you should ask your colleagues or supervisors right away.Although inconvenient transportation is a hassle, colleagues were very enthusiastic to help our interns from abroad and drove us to the nearby supermarket to buy things.

Akita International University Exchange in Japan – Miko
─────────Required abilityMotivation should be clear to sign up for the exchange. JLPT or TOEIC scores are needed. Not many students applied for this exchange because the university is not located in a big city. You can bravely practice Japanese speaking and listening and get in touch with the Japanese environment early. Course ContentThe courses are divided into three levels, and the junior level can choose the first to junior levels. In a class that I took, Japanese students reported on TED videos, discussing the concept of love between Taiwanese and Japanese. Akita International University’s rank is very high in Japan and also focuses on teaching in English. Therefore, local students and exchange students interact in English. Most special is that the teaching method is mainly led by the students. The teacher just provided advice and guides. Japanese students also interacted with us after classes. Recommended reasonThe department not only provides a five-day exchange but also one-semester or one-year exchanges to Akita International University. You can first come to see the environment in advance in a short exchange to ensure that you still want to have a long-term exchange because the traffic is inconvenient. It takes a long time to transfer from the airport to the school, and there is not much nearby amusement. In this environment, it is a good time to study hard in this school. If you go to Japan to exchange, you should practice speaking and listening more. With a good environment, you can have many chances to practice. Miko met the exchange students in Japan and kept in touch for a long time.
Japanese Listening and Expression - VR Class

Japanese Listening and Expression - VR Class

Japanese Listening and Expression - VR Class
─────────  Course IntroductionThis course is for beginners. In addition to practicing the dialogue, we can also learn languages by making VR videos. Before this semester, other students have made VR that is about visiting Japanese temples and Japanese tea ceremonies. This semester students have made a university tour video. Students can improve their Japanese skills by writing scripts and design questions. They can also learn through every group’s video. While producing VR videos, students can understand more professional knowledge and acquire related skills.   Course ProcessAt the beginning of the course, professional teachers and experienced upperclass students were invited to teach the production of VR. Next, the students finished the script and memorized the lines. Finally, they filmed every building, restaurant, and gym at the school.   Comprehensive FeedbackThrough shooting VR videos, students can get a lot of opportunities to practice Japanese speaking. They must memorize the scripts before shooting. When mistakes are found after shooting, they can also correct immediately and practice more. On the other hand, it takes a lot of time to make VR, which is not as simple as shooting a general film. At least they can practice the same dialogue to be very familiar. For students, facing a camera is not a common thing. After this class, most students no longer feel shy in front of the camera, and it can also enable them to speak Japanese more confidently. Perhaps in the future, they have no worries about speaking Japanese in front of many people.
 English Translation in Practice

English Translation in Practice

 English Translation in Practice
───────── Course IntroductionThis course aims to cultivate learners' basic translation skills through practice based on constructive analysis. Students will learn different types of translation, including film, sports, news, business and technology. Project-based learning will be included in the curriculum. Students will use translation technology to carry out translation projects. Special course activitiesAt the end of the semester, the teacher assigned a group competition for film subtitle translation. At the same time, we also had to shoot a film. We acted as the male and female characters in the film. Each group chose the film they wanted to remake. For the 20-minute clip, we must not only memorize the lines, but also master the acting skills to interpret the message conveyed in the movie. Of course, the ultimate goal is to apply some of the translation skills we have learned in the course to the subtitles of the movies we remake. There was even a pizza celebration after the final announcement!
Award-winning experienceAlthough we are native Chinese speakers, there is still a certain degree of challenge in translating English into Chinese. Because you can't be too daily life-like in translation; just think about what kind of subtitles would make you feel the content more personal when we go to the movies. You will also encounter situations where you can't have redundant words. It takes a lot of effort to learn shooting a film and acting. Finally, the teacher announced the results of the competition, and the winning team also received a lot of prizes! It was really a joy to be able to win the content by using the actual skills learned in the course! Thanks a lot for the opportunity provided by the teacher and the team members!
 Intercultural Communication Course

Intercultural Communication Course

 Intercultural Communication Course
───────── Course introductionIntercultural communication skills can help you overcome interpersonal problems in the future journey of a globalized world. The course discusses the nature of culture, how culture affects communication, common factors that hinder communication, such as stereotypes, culture-based thinking, discrimination, etc., and its applications in various communication situations such as first meeting, dining, gift-giving, telephone, email, etc. Classes are conducted in the form of teacher's explanation, discussion, actual communication, case discussion, and individual group report so that you can actually operate how different cultures should respond to different communication methods.  The graph above is a screenshot of the online exchange project as students introduce themselves in a short video.  Online Intercultural ExchangeThe online intercultural exchange was jointly organized by Yuan Ze University and The Hague University in the Netherlands.Through the process of video communication between the students of both sides and theme discussions, the students got to understand different cultures and ideas. The online intercultural exchange brings different perspectives to the students.

Experience by a studentWhen I first took this class, I felt that the content discussed in the textbook and the answers we had to choose were just basic commonsense, and it was not necessary to learn to acquire such knowledge. But through communicating with European students, we had an opportunity to actually face people from different countries and different cultures. In addition to having a more practical experience of communicating with foreigners, the course also enriches my courage and communication skills. Though most students have been exposed to English learning from elementary school or even kindergarten, when they arrive at university, their English communication skills have not reached the required level to communicate with foreigners. I still remember this lesson in which I  introduced not only myself but also some things about my culture. What is impressive is that I had to face a foreigner directly, which was a very big challenge for me. At the time, as a freshman, I was very unconfident in my English communication skills. I told the other party "My English is not very good, please bear with me", but the Dutch girl at the time not only encouraged me patiently and praised me. This is a great confidence builder for me. So I really like the practical part of this class.
 Augsburg University

Augsburg University

 Augsburg University of Technology Exchange
─────────InformationThe University of Augsburg is a university located in the Universitätsviertel section of Augsburg, Germany. It was founded in 1970 and is organized in 8 Faculties. The University of Augsburg is a relatively young campus university with approx. 18,000 students in October 2012. Courses (in class)I studied at the School of Business at the Augsburg University of Technology. Most courses are taught in English, so there are many courses to choose from. You can choose management, marketing and economics courses according to your own interests. I myself took cross-cultural management and business English in the business school. In addition to attending the class, in the cross-cultural management course I also need to participate in a full-day workshop. During that entire day, we must try our best to communicate and cooperate with students from different countries. Although I have taken cross-cultural related courses in Taiwan, I never had the opportunity to experience and practice immediately after the class. So this course gave me a good opportunity to communicate with exchange students in Germany. Besides, the American professor who taught this course was also very humorous and interesting. The other business English is the one that I think has benefited me the most. Although I am in the Department of Foreign Languages in YZU, this course exposed many shortcomings I had because I had so many opportunities to discuss and present in English. The school’s GO OUT DAY introduced Taiwan and YZU to German students.  Exchange life learning (extracurricular)In the life of Fort Augustus, in addition to class and reading, the most common thing to do is probably to cook and go to the supermarket. Also because of cooking by yourself, life here is much healthier than in Taiwan. There are many parks near the dormitory, so I often go on walks when I have time. In addition, from time to time, I will participate in many parties and festivals held in cities and schools. Life in Fort Augustus is very comfortable. I have a lot of time to do what I want to do and plan my time. Therefore, I feel that self-discipline has become very important; otherwise, you will let yourself be careless or too lazy. Thoughts and suggestionsIn the short six months, the progress I made here is actually quite limited, but the most valuable is to recognize my shortcomings, and I believe that I will continue to work hard after returning. In addition, my life experience here has also affected my attitude towards life and my thinking about the future. In addition to reality and money, you start to think about what kind of life you really want. Is your current self moving in that direction? I want to remind students that the most important thing is not to set limits for yourself and not to put too much pressure on yourself. Enjoy every day, try your best to absorb when there are classes, and pick some classes that are a little difficult for you but not too many. What you learn is not only the knowledge in the class but also the beautiful life experiences. This appreciation will let you see the possibilities of different lives, making you braver to face your future, and more willing to try hard.

─────────College IntroductionThe location is located in Brno, Czech, and the school system is divided into the School of Management and the School of Psychology. The characteristic of Newton College is its small-class teaching. The courses include international business management, strategic management, business English and political science. The environment and equipment in the college are abundant. Both the library and the cafe on campus are very good.
.                               Preparation before exchangeThe exchange application for the spring semester will be filed in September, and the results will be announced in October. At this time, you must contact the Newton college window as soon as possible. The visa application must also be prepared. The visa interview will begin in November and December. After you get your ticket, you will also have to buy the insurance and receive your visa. After you are ready, you will be ready to go abroad in January next year! In exchangeIn terms of the local environment, when I came to the Czech Republic, because the temperature difference between day and night is quite large, it is recommended to use the onion-style dressing method to adapt to the local climate. It would not matter if you don’t bring too many clothes, because it is not expensive to buy locally. You need to prepare enough in winter. A warm coat to withstand the wind and snow and to cover a large enough area, a woolen hat or scarf, and gloves for winter accessories are also necessary. For three meals, you can go to the food supermarket to buy ingredients. You can buy them locally and you can cook them yourself. However, there are also gourmet restaurants in the Czech Republic. If you miss Taiwanese food, you can also eat them! By the way, Czech beer is delicious and cheap, so you must drink it when you come to the Czech Republic!                                                         .                          In terms of accommodation, the school will help find a dormitory, which is a double room, but the bathroom, clothes drying area, kitchen, etc. are all shared spaces.

The transportation in the Czech Republic is also very convenient. There is a monthly pass to take a variety of transportations, which is very convenient and simple.

In addition to attending classes at school, you can also travel abroad, participate in activities and festivals, or host parties with friends.

福永右真 Yuma1. Reasons for applying to study in TaiwanIn the beginning, I wanted to study in other countries. I couldn’t choose a country such as the United States or Australia, because their tuition and prices were not cheap. After I went to the course briefing which was held by a Chinese classroom for studying in Taiwan at my school, I decided immediately to study in Taiwan. I thought that Taiwan is a very pro-Japanese country, and public security was also very good. If I come to Taiwan, I can communicate with many foreigners and learn Chinese. Although I was only a sophomore in high school, I never regret choosing to study in Taiwan. 2. Why are you satisfied or dissatisfied so far? There are many satisfying things in Taiwan. My classmates and teachers are very great to me. It can be said that I am in such a good environment, so there is nothing to be dissatisfied with so far. Sometimes, I feel that I am not used to fitting in Taiwan or many things are different from Japan, but I know that I study abroad. There must be differences that I need to find a way to fit in Taiwan more or get used to it, so nothing is disappointing recently. 3. ScholarshipThere is no requirement because I think Yuan Ze University's scholarship is fair. If I work hard, the scholarship is a kind of special gift, so there is no need for me. 4. The way to apply to study abroad and experience sharingI applied to study abroad through the Chinese classroom where I learned Chinese in Japan, so I am not clear about the process. In terms of experience, my personality has changed since I came to Taiwan. I have become more energetic and outgoing and enjoy the time with my classmates so much. For me, playing with classmates, studying together or quarreling can be learning opportunities in life. After all, I am now in my junior year. I want to cherish the rest of my studying abroad life in Taiwan because I believe that it is a destiny to meet each one. I also want to cherish every classmate, friend, and teacher, and seize the days of this precious study abroad life. 段中梨冴 Lisa1. Reasons for applying to come to TaiwanThe main reason to study in Taiwan is that I want to learn Chinese, and I like Taiwan so much. I always wanted to study abroad since I was a child. When I was deciding which university to go to in my third year of senior high school, I saw a poster of studying in Taiwan and decided to apply. Moreover, price level and university tuition in Taiwan are much cheaper than in Japan, which is one of the reasons why I applied to study in Taiwan. 2. Why are you satisfied or dissatisfied so far?Dissatisfied: Inconvenient traffic, too many scooter, and traffic is chaoticSatisfaction: low living expenses, cheap medical expenses, delicious foods 3. How to maintain good grades or reading methodsThere are more English classes in our departments, so there are almost no language problems. Thanks to the help of my classmates. My group reports, preparation for the midterm, and final exams went well. 4. ScholarshipI am very satisfied with the current scholarship system. 5. The way to apply to study abroad and experience sharingI applied for Yuan Ze University through the "Taiwan Enrollment Cram School" where I studied Chinese before coming to Taiwan. To apply for a university, I need to write an autobiography and a reading plan. Some universities need to use Skype for interviews. The tutors in cram school will help me correct my autobiography and practice for interviews. 盧桀 Pete 1. Why Taiwan? In Autumn 2018, I traveled to Taiwan on my own, wandering throughout Taipei for 5 days. I was undeniably impressed by its environment, weather, scenic landscapes and foods which are all affordable with almost the same prices as my country’s. After going back to Thailand, I was thinking of returning to Taiwan again but had no idea at the time. Later on, as having experienced an inevitable burnout from my routine work, I decided to continue my further study in what I’m literally passionate about, Linguistics. Furthermore, I chose Taiwan because I wanted to practice my Chinese even though the characters are simplified, but It didn’t bar me from moving to Taiwan. So far, I have been studying in the 4th semester already since March, 2021. This is indeed the memorable and joyful journey! 2. Experience of studying in YZUI chose YZU for my Master’s degree because the department provides Applied Linguistics courses. The curriculum is very interesting and fits my preference.  One of my favorite courses is Cognitive Semantic, which is about how our mind, thought and language cooperate together. Basically, many courses encourage students to openly and freely share their ideas in class. Professors in our department always put lots of effort into their lectures. Their specialties are truly valuable for our own research. Besides, my classmates are internationally diverse. It is a very good opportunity to learn from each other’s culture as well. One thing that I’m also into is that the class is not too big for discussion. Both professors and classmates can thoroughly discuss each topic. What’s more, the department provides me with a full scholarship which covers tuition fees and a monthly stipend. The scholarship is an encouraging motivation to study here as I need to maintain my grade for each upcoming semester. Apisit BoonklangMy name is Apisit Boonklang. I arrived in Taiwan during the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2021. There were many extra procedures and documents that I needed to provide before coming here. Thus, it was a difficult decision to come here. However, pursuing a degree here not only gives me a great opportunity to study with professional professors but also provides an opportunity for me to live and explore Taiwan.Classrooms and CoursesEach semester, there are at least 4 courses to choose, taught by professors who are specialized in a specific field in applied linguistics. The courses include language teaching, language learning, semantics, pragmatic, research writing, sociolinguistics, etc. The activities and assignments give me chances to work with classmates and get to know them better. You can get some good advice from professors who are willing to help you to complete your projects, assignments, or thesis. You can also find more information and perform your own self-study in the incredibly modern library packed with tons of educational material and resources with a good mood of peaceful reading environment provided inside. Experience inside and outside the campusApart from pursuing a master’s degree, I set my own goal to make the most of my time here. I am a person who loves going out and joining activities to gain more experience. At Yuan Ze University, there are always events and activities for me to join, and they give me the best experience. I have met and got to know people from different countries with diverse cultures. During weekends, holidays, spring break or whenever I have time, I always find places to visit. Since public transportation in Taiwan is very convenient, it is very easy to take a one-day trip to Taipei, Taichung, Keelung, or any other city close to Taoyuan. At the time I am writing this, I have visited almost all the cities on the west coast of Taiwan, and I still want to visit more places in the future.    Welcome
